Nijmegen, the oldest city in the Netherlands. A city with a beautiful centre, nice walking routes and an ideal location. Last year, we opened our renewed hotel near the Goffertpark and this hotel is ideal for a weekend break! We have listed our 5 favourite tips for things to do in Nijmegen:

Discover the history of Nijmegen

Did you know that Nijmegen is the oldest city in the Netherlands? This makes it an excellent city to discover many historical monuments and history. Be sure to visit the Waaggebouw, the Kanunnikenhuisjes, the Latijnse School and the Sint Stevens Church which can also be climbed at certain times! All are beautiful and old buildings, in which you can also clearly find a piece of medieval architecture.

Admire the Waal Bridge

An iconic spot in Nijmegen it certainly is! This bridge from 1936 connects the centre of Nijmegen with Lent. You may know this bridge from war movies or museums, because many important moments in history have taken place here. Would you like to learn more about it? Then be sure to visit Museum Het Valkhof, where you will find everything about the Roman Empire.

Enjoying the green surroundings

Fancy a good walk? Nijmegen is an area with a lot of nature! For a nice walk, you should definitely visit the Ooijpolder. Here you can walk along the forelands of the river Waal. But Nijmegen also has beautiful parks such as the Kronerburgerpark and the Goffertpark. Tip: the Goffertpark is only 10 minutes from our hotel.

Go shopping in the city centre

End your day or weekend in Nijmegen with a nice shopping trip in the city centre. You will stroll through the oldest shopping street of the Netherlands. In Lange Hezelstraat there are lots of nice boutiques and specialist shops. And in the Marikenstraat, you will find the larger chains and more exclusive shops. In other words, something for everyone. Need to take a break from shopping? Nijmegen has the highest density of terraces in the Netherlands. Enough place to enjoy a cup of coffee with apple pie. 

On the way back past Groesbeek

Every nice trip comes to an end, also a weekend in Nijmegen. On the way home, we recommend you drive past Groesbeek. Here you will find a beautiful hilly area with not only lots of green, but also beautiful vineyards and the Vrijheidsmuseum. A perfect stopover! You can do nice wine tastings, beautiful walks or a cycling tour here.
