20 May 2022

The old fortified town of Brielle has a rich history, so Brielle alone has 400 monuments. But there is much more to find in this old fortified town, such as a pilgrimage church, a museum, an old Kruithuis with a rich history and much more! Imagine yourself back in time and discover Brielle.

Relax on the beach

From Brielle it's only a 15-minute drive to the beach at Rockanje. Because of its ideal location, the beach of Rockanje is perfect for sun lovers. In addition, the beach slopes gently towards the sea, making this beach also very suitable for children. For a snack or drink you can go to one of the five beach bars. Coming by car? Then you can park your car on one of the large car parks or in the village Rockanje.

Admire the Pilgrimage Church

As the name suggests, the Pilgrimage Church is part of a pilgrimage complex. Behind the church is the Martyrs' Field. At the Martyrs' Field, you will also find a pond that used to be the monastery's fishpond. The Pilgrimage Church is a unique complex that still attracts many pilgrims every year. The Pilgrimage Church is open to the public daily during the summer months of July and August.

Discover the Asylum Square

The Asylplein is perhaps one of the most special places in Brielle. The Asyl voor Oude en Gebrekkige Zeelieden was founded in 1872 to house old and poor sailors. From 1947, it was also possible for non-sailors to register for housing. At this square, you will find several monuments. For example, you will find the Johan Beenbank with a plaque of Johan Been designed by the Brielse artist M.L. Middelhoek.
