The holiday packing list with useful holiday tips
I'm going on holiday and I'm taking... The anticipation of a holiday starts with packing your suitcase, but this can sometimes also be stressful. Don't worry! We have created a number of useful tips and a clear packing list for your holiday (scroll down quickly!). Whether you're going on a flight holiday abroad or going camping in our little country, with this checklist you can be sure that you'll take everything with you on holiday.
8x useful holiday tips
1. Open your suitcase a week before departure
Packing your suitcase can be quite a task in itself. Prepare the most important items well in advance, so that you have plenty of time to add or remove items. Especially useful so that you know which clothes still need to be washed and what you can pack immediately. What else do you need to bring besides clothes? You can download the packing list at the bottom of this blog.
The best way to pack your suitcase and save space is to make sets of clothes in advance. Base the number of sets on the number of days you are going on holiday. Tip: make sure that you can combine the sets of clothes with each other. This way you can wear multiple items more often! Pack your suitcase without wrinkles? Roll all your clothes. This not only makes it more organized, but also saves more space. Also make sure that the most important documents are in a separate bag that you can easily reach when necessary.
2. Download the app for all flight information
Are you flying abroad this summer? Easily download the app of the airline you are flying with, so you will have your boarding passes at hand (which also saves a lot of paperwork!). In addition, you can check in online 24 hours in advance and you will also know immediately which seats are for you. This way you do not have to wait long and you can stroll along all the duty free shops. Win-win!
Are you flying via Schiphol? When you download the Schiphol app you can easily see all flight information. This way you have all information about the gate, boarding times and flight numbers in one place. The app is also very useful for those staying at home. Are they picking you up? Then they can easily see what time the plane lands via the app.
3. Plan your trip to the airport in advance
Are you going by public transport? Check in advance whether there are any disruptions or train journeys have been cancelled. Would you rather take a taxi? In any case, make sure that you have planned this well in advance. Taxi rides are often cheaper if you book them in advance.
In addition, it is wise to have a plan B. Find out how you can still get to the airport by public transport if you book a taxi, or ask someone if they can drive in case of emergency. That way you will not be faced with surprises when you are about to leave.
4. You can discover the most beautiful gems online
The anticipation is not only in packing, but also in looking up what there is to do at your holiday destination. Go crazy on Google to discover the best sights or scour social media for the cosiest restaurants. Found something nice? Save it! Don't forget to check whether you need a ticket for the activity or need to make a reservation for the restaurant. Do this before your trip, then you know for sure that you have arranged it in time. Are you planning an active holiday? Then definitely investigate which beautiful hiking trails there are in the area, or where you can rent a fast mountain bike!
5. Lubricate, lubricate and lubricate again
Applying sunscreen is perhaps the most important thing you should continue to do on holiday. And yes, you can still get a lovely tan with sunscreen. Use a day cream with SPF and don't forget to keep applying it throughout the day. This way, you are protected from the sun from the start and the chance of burning is reduced. Also keep applying a lip balm with SPF to your lips. These are available at the drugstore. How often should you apply sunscreen? With factor 30 and 50, it is advisable to reapply every two hours. If you use a factor 15 or lower, it is advisable to reapply sooner. It also depends on other factors. Just taken a dip in the pool? Or are you sweating while baking in the sun? Then the protection of the SPF decreases and you burn faster.
6. Pre-download your series
Are you flying to a sunny country somewhere in the south? Then you will first be in the plane for a few hours. During the flight you will not have a connection, so endless scrolling is not an option. Are you not a reader and do you like a bit of music or a series? Then it is smart to download enough for your flight in advance. That way you can also enjoy your favorite series or music high up in the air!
In addition, it is wise to download some content in advance. Perhaps the connection is bad at your holiday destination, or there is no wifi at all. By saving some episodes in advance, you can still watch an episode in the evening without extra bundle costs.
7. Better to bring too much food than too little
But isn't it wise to take less with you? If it's clothing or unnecessary items, then yes. But if you're going on a car holiday, then it's better to take too much food and drink. Such a journey often takes a long time, and out of boredom you eat faster. Before you know it, all your snacks are gone and you pay €10 for a sandwich at a gas station...
Instead, try packing a cooler bag filled with your favorite snacks. Pack some whole grain bread, nuts, and apples in it. These foods are packed with fiber, which will help you satisfy your hunger. Don’t worry: packing too much food is no problem when you go on vacation. Any leftovers can simply be crossed off your shopping list when you arrive!
8. Bring useful gadgets
You may encounter minor problems on holiday: a broken button, too few sockets or blisters on your feet. And there you are, scouring shops for things that you simply have lying around in a drawer at home. To be well prepared for your trip, there are a number of items that take up little space, but can always come in handy.
For example, take a solar power bank with you. This is a power bank that charges itself with sunlight. Do you have a long day ahead of you? Then put it outside, and you also have a charging option at hand in emergency situations when there is no power outlet nearby. In addition, you make a sustainable choice with a solar power bank in your pocket!
Secondly, a sewing kit wouldn’t hurt to pack. It takes up very little space but comes in handy when that one button comes undone.
Finally, a small first aid kit is a good idea. Filled with a few blister, water or regular plasters, a bandage, some medicine and eye drops, you are prepared for (almost) anything!
